The process of creating your golf simulator

  • Step 1

Understanding what you want from a golf simulator. There are so many options out there to suit all needs from a top tour professional to playing golf in your living room. Key questions to ask yourself could include: Do I want to play on a simulated golf course? Am I only focused on working on my swing mechanics? or both? How much space do I have? Do I need a bespoke build golf simulator room, or does a self assembly enclosure suit me better? and of course, how much am I willing to spend?

Once you know what your needs are it will make shopping for your simulator much easier.

    Step 2
Now you know what you need, we would always recommend double checking your measurements. Other things to account for would be the location of power sockets, wifi range (if needed), what kind of lighting you have, and where the cabling would run.

We know it's all very exciting but addressing these practical points now will help avoid problems later

    Step 3

What do I need for a Golf Simulator?

Simulator Setup

It's really dependent on what you want to get from your simulator experience. Some people are only interested in playing on famous courses, some only want the analytical data, some want to take their launch monitor out and about, and some want everything!

As a minimum, you will need decide on these options:

  1. Launch Monitor
  2. Hitting Enclosure
  3. Hitting Surface

Optional upgrades to decide on:

  1. Projector (not yet available at MIA)
  2. Device or Gaming PC (not yet available at MIA)
  3. Software

Space Requirements

The minimum room size for your golf simulator will depend on which launch monitor you want to go with. Camera based launch monitors (photometric) will need slightly less space as they setup next to the ball. Radar based launch monitors set up behind the ball so they will need more space.

Don't forget to account for the 1ft of space needed behind the impact screen in your measurements otherwise the ball will hit the wall behind and bounce back at you!

We would recommend Next to the Ball launch monitors minimum dimensions:

4 x 2.8 x 2.8 m

and for Behind the Ball launch monitors minimum dimensions:

5 x 2.8 x 2.8 m

(length x width x height)

Budget

The critical question.. how much are you willing to spend?
