FAQs

How much space do I need for a golf simulator?

Check out our Golf Simulator Setup Guide for more information.

The minimum room size for your golf simulator will depend on which launch monitor you want to go with. Camera based launch monitors (photometric) will need slightly less space as they set up next to the ball. Radar based launch monitors set up behind the ball so they will need more space.

We would recommend Next to the Ball launch monitors minimum dimensions:

4 x 2.8 x 2.8 m

and for Behind the Ball launch monitors minimum dimensions:

5 x 2.8 x 2.8 m

(length x width x height)

What equipment do I need for a golf simulator?

It's really dependent on what you want to get from your golf simulator experience. Some people are only interested in playing on famous courses, some only want the analytical data, some want to take their launch monitor out and about, and some want everything!

As a minimum, you will need decide on these options:

  1. Launch Monitor
  2. Hitting Enclosure
  3. Hitting Surface

Optional upgrades to decide on:

  1. Projector (not yet available at MIA)
  2. Device or Gaming PC (not yet available at MIA)
  3. Simulator Software
What's the best launch monitor?

This is completely dependent on what you want from a golf launch monitor so we can't recommend only one as the best. Different launch monitors have different features / set up requirements / subscriptions so it's really up to you! We can help guide you in making the best decision for you

How much lighting do I need for Face Impact Location to be accurate?

Lighting is a key consideration for a golf simulator and some launch monitors are more sensitive than others. We would always recommend checking the user guide for each individual product.

Flourescent lighting can cause tracking problems so darker environment is preferred. For Face impact location to work effectively you will need at least 300 lumens of light at the tee position Some customers have a spotlight localised on this area

Can I use normal golf balls?

You can use regular golf balls however the results (particularly the spin data) will not be as accurate as it should be. We would recommend purchasing ball tracking stickers or RCT balls to ensure the best results from your launch monitor. These stickers/RCT balls have been developed specifically with the technology to deliver the best results.

Some products recommend a specific ball, check the product pages for more information.
